Tunnelling Cables
Tunnels can be constructed for various reasons, take different forms, and be created using various construction techniques. In its most basic form, tunnelling refers to the extraction of material to form a passageway underground.
This passageway may then be used for the movement of people, trains and vehicles; this is tunnelling.
The passageway may be an integral part of underground mining, where tunnels are used to access valuable ore or minerals to be extracted; this is, strictly speaking, mining.
Tratos’ robust and reliable Tunnelling Cables power, control, and monitor equipment used to construct all types of tunnels worldwide. Tratos supplies cables for constructing conventionally mined tunnels, typically used for mineral extraction and storage, as well as linear tunnels and underground passageways made by tunnel boring machines (TBMS), typically used for transportation and utilities.
With their in-depth knowledge, Tratos Engineers select only the highest-quality materials to manufacture their cables used in tunnel construction. All cables are developed, thoroughly tested, and optimised to match the specific tunnelling technique used, guaranteeing quality, reliability, and longevity.
After successfully supplying cables for decades, today the Tratos Group enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the industry’s most trusted suppliers.
Cable range
The Tratos range of underground tunnelling cables supplies machines such as drills, road headers, excavators, loaders, pumps, rock bolters, grouters, conveyors and for linear tunnels and underground passageways, tunnel boring machines (TBMs).
Tratos can supply cables for operation in both normal atmospheres and those where methane or other hazardous gases may be present.
The range of mining and tunnelling cables supplied includes fixed and flexible cables up to 35 kV.
According to internationally recognised industry and national codes, guidelines and standards
Tratos has dedicated product engineers and sector specialists who understand the special requirements needed to ensure reliable and consistent performance in the harshest of tunnelling environments. It is this knowledge that ensures Tratos’ Tunnelling Cables meet or exceed the requirements of the leading internationally recognised industry standards (e.g. AS/NZS, VDE, BS, UL, CSA, MSHA, and OSHA) as well as National Codes and Guidelines. Tratos products are also RoHS compliant, manufactured on sites that hold ISO 14001 Environmental Approval and ISO 9001 Quality Management System Approval.
Completion of tunnelling
On the completion of the civil work involved, Tratos can also supply a complete range of permanent installation cables for the power, control and monitoring, including Fire Performance and Fibre optic types.
Mining and Quarrying
As well as cables used in the construction of tunnels, Tratos can also supply cables used in both Surface and Underground Mining operations
