Continued investment has delivered a wide spectrum of specialised railways’ cable solutions: from Medium voltage & High voltage cable for connection to substations and switchgear, Data & Telecommunication Cable (copper & fibre optic), Signalling Power & Control cables, OLE cable, Track Feeder cable to Station & Premises and Pantograph & Rolling Stock cable.

Tratos supplied Frecciarossa, the Italian Railways’ “Alta Velocità” (High-Speed Train)project, and, thanks to Tratos’ fire-resistant fibre optic cable, the ‘Rome-Naples’ high-speed train was inaugurated on schedule. Years of investment and endeavour have led to the development of this cable, which has met Italferr and IMQ standards.

In the last 50 years, Tratos has been key in helping enhance many of the existing Fire Performance standards for cables within the Railways and Mass Transit applications, developing new solutions for increased safety and performance along the way.

SECURE ADVANTAGE – Tratos use several clever theft-prevention technologies to make cable theft less rewarding, ranging from the use of simple identity threads or tapes to improve traceability, the use of alarmed cables that alert the rail operator when a cable is tampered with and, in collaboration with European railway operators, Tratos has developed a range of cables to combat theft from critical installations by using aluminium steel reinforced (ACSR) and thermal aluminium steel reinforced (TACSR) conductors. Tratos now provides a range of options to make traceability of stolen cable easier for the police and make cable theft less profitable for the thief, with the added bonus of deterring metal merchants from receiving what is effectively stolen goods.

Network Rail has awarded independent Merseyside-based cable manufacturer Tratos UK Ltd a five-year cable supply framework contract.
