Fire classification of construction products and building elements – Classification using data from reaction to fire tests on power, control and communication cables
BS EN 13501, Fire classification of construction products and building elements consists of six parts:
BS EN 13501 Part 6 provides the reaction-to-fire classification procedure using data from reaction-to-fire tests on electric cables.
This part of the document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association.
The Standard aims to define a harmonized procedure for the classification of reaction to fire of power, control, communication cables and hybrid cables. This classification is based on the test procedures listed in the standard.
European Standard EN 13501 has been prepared to support the second essential requirement in the EC Construction Products Regulation (CPR) (EU) N°305/2011, as detailed in Interpretative Document Number 2: Safety in Case of Fire (OJ C62 Vol. 37).
In this document, the term “electric cables” covers all power, control and communication cables, including optical fibre cables.
