IEC 60245
IEC 60245-1 – Rubber insulated cables – Rated voltages up to and including 450/750 V – Part 1: General requirements
IEC 60245-1 applies to both rigid and flexible cables with insulation, and where applicable, sheathing made from vulcanised rubber. These cables are designed for use in power installations operating at nominal voltages up to and including 450/750 V.
This part of the IEC 60245 series establishes the general requirements for rubber-insulated cables, including materials, construction, testing, and marking. It provides the foundation for the more specific requirements laid out in the subsequent parts of the standard, such as IEC 60245-3, IEC 60245-4, and others, which detail particular types of rubber-insulated cables used in various applications.
The code designations for the different types of rubber-insulated cables governed by this series are listed in Annex A of the standard, offering users a clear reference for identification and classification.
A principal change in this latest edition is the replacement of insulation type IE 1 with IE 4, reflecting updates in material technology and performance expectations.
