Renewable Energy Cables

Tratos has pioneered greener, cleaner Renewable Energy Cables for many years and continues to advance the technology. Working with its customers it has developed a range of environmentally friendly solutions for the challenges they face.

Its TratosAeolus range of flexible rubber cables can be found in turbines in wind farms throughout Europe, and TratosDaedalus cables in solar installations, including Surbo, built in Ciminna, Palermo; one of the largest photovoltaic field in Europe. Tratos also supplies the fixed underground power cables and innovative hybrid overhead conductors used to connect wind and solar farms to the grid.

In Ports worldwide Tratos High Voltage Shore Connection (HVSC) cables are in use helping to improve the local environment as they allow ships to shut down shipboard generators and to connect to shore power during their stays in port.

Tratos has also developed more robust cables with increased pulling tension to allow easier electrification of diesel Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes used to transport containers in these ports.

Tratos now also supplies Distribution Network Operators (DNO’s) and Utilities with larger sizes of cables to help reduce I2R losses and to futureproof networks for the increase in demand cause by electric vehicle charging stations.

The company has spent years developing compounds that do not contain halogens and which are easier to recycle, to provide greater protection for people and a more friendly environment. All of the Renewable Energy Cables manufactured by Tratos can be supplied in these new compounds.

Since 1980, Tratos has used clean, renewable energy from its own hydroelectric plant. In 2001, the company started producing Tratos Green, a cable made using only hydroelectric energy. Tratos has supplied Medium Voltage cables, and Optical Fibre Cables to several wind farms around Europe,UL, VDE, Lloyds Register (for cables inside ships), and EAC (approving sales in Russia).
